THINK ABOUT THIS:What a winfall for the insurance companies this placing people over 55 directly into medicare! when do you become expensive to insurance companies? generaly when your older! so now the companies that are ripping us off are trying to get the right to give them another golden egg! take all the elderly an let the government pick up the tab!
lets do the right thing lets put in a real public option and not band-aid a failing system!

THAT would be real competition!

Medicare IS public healthcare, it's just not an "option" right now unless you are 65 or older. I think it should be opened up to those 50 and older as they are a segment of the population that finds it difficult to find employment, plus many have chronic conditions. I also think it should be opened up to ANYONE with a prior condition that makes healthcare prohibitively expensive for them. You're right in that these are the people private insurance doesn't want anyway. Maybe it could be seen as a win-win.
