Karzai Says Afghan Army Will Need Help Until 2024...fifteen more fucking years? puhleeze
ABUL, Afghanistan — In the latest sign of the enduring financial costs of the Afghan war for the United States and other NATO countries, President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday that Afghanistan would not be able to pay for its own security until at least 2024.

Mr. Karzai’s comments underscored his government’s long-term dependence on American and NATO funding just hours after as many as a dozen people were killed during an American raid in Laghman Province east of Kabul, Afghan officials said, prompting hundreds of villagers to march in protest.

The early morning operation outside the provincial capital of Mehtar Lam happened “without any coordination with the Afghan forces or Afghan officials,” said Sayed Ahmed Safi, a spokesman for the governor of Laghman.

He said one woman was among the dead, which included civilians as well as insurgents, all killed by small-arms fire. He said the troops also detained four other men.

After Afghan security forces blocked marchers from entering Mehtar Lam, gunfire broke out, killing one protester and wounding two others, he said.

17. When you consider how few legit. revenue sources that country really has
this estimate isn't really that shocking.

2. Our Marines will be digging Karzai out of some spider hole long before then just like Saddam
The Republican neocons are just itching to get back in power to send in the calvary to put a new puppet in power with all the nationalistic BS that goes along with doing it.

The American people will eat it up too.

4. The corrupt Mayor of Kabul speaks!
I cannot conceive of any scenario where the American public will stand for that long of an engagement. As the American middle-class continues to move into poverty, it is going to get MUCH more difficult for politicians to continue to dump money into this rathole.

19. I think it really depends on what type of aid is being sent and
how things are going in other parts of the world (i.e. if a major Iraq drawdown does occur after the '09 elections, as promised).

20. Now, Now, that wouldnt be change!
The cheerleaders will accuse you of poutrage, and besides were'nt we all for the good war? Only crazy marginalized hippie bastards were against Obama's so-called good war.
The Observed change was that a Democrat came into power and kept Cheney and Bush's staybehinds in many positions! That was a non-change I did not expect... but apparently the cheerleadeers got the chess strategy memo.

15. What Karzai really wants....
Is for the United States to prop us his corrupt regime for the next 15 years. Then he can retire to Switzerland with his ill-gotten billions.

If you want to know what the Afghans do to corrupt puppets, read up about what they did with the Soviet-sponsored "President" of Afghanistan.
