Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible". That is what the woman from the NJ Civil Liberties union said during a celebration of our minor victory in the effort to legalize Gay Marriage in NJ. I thought it was a great reply to the "this is a Christian Nation.." and "the Bible says..." crowd.

I so wish I was in Trenton yesterday, but my health is not very good right now, and I don't want to get everyone sick.
Now if it were a tea party yesterday, I would have been there coughing all over everyone.
Have you called your senator today yet?

3. That is a very good way to put it, even if it assumes |
|
that the Bible should be involved at all. It certainly isn't when I affirm oaths.

8. I would only use it for those that insist on bringing the bible into the issue |
|
Otherwise like yourself, I would avoid bringing religion into political issues.

9. Nobody is upholding the constitution. |
|
Politicians only pay lip service to upholding the constitution. The notion of 'living breathing document' was invented to avoid the difficulties of actually having to follow it and use the cumbersome amendment process to legitimately change it. I like my contracts to mean what they say not just what a slim majority of partisan judges want it to conveniently say today.

commenting on the double meaning of words and when we are allowed to say them.
