The President chides John Conyers for "demeaning" him
Edited on Tue Dec-08-09 12:01 PM by pscot
Nothing personal, says Conyers, a long time civil right crusader, who was a Democrat before the President was born.

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/71075-conyers-obama-told-me-to-stop-demeaning-him

Conyers, the second-longest-serving member of the House, said, “ called me and told me that he heard that I was demeaning him and I had to explain to him that it wasn’t anything personal, it was an honest difference on the issues. And he said, ‘Well, let’s talk about it.’”

Sitting in the Judiciary Committee’s conference room two days after Obama delivered his speech on Afghanistan, the 23-term lawmaker said he wasn’t in the mood to “chat.”

Obama’s move to send in 30,000 troops to Afghanistan by the summer of 2010 has clearly disappointed Conyers.
----
“I’ve been saying I don’t agree with him on Afghanistan, I think he screwed up on healthcare reform, on Guantánamo and kicking Greg off,” Conyers said, referring to the departure of former White House counsel Greg Craig.

1. Conyers wife is scheduled to appear in federal court next month for sentencing
Perhaps he should be nice to President Obama.

4. That has probably been the blackmail being held over him since he became Chairman.

5. So, you think that he held back on Bush because his wife is a crook?

8. Maybe not. It's possible that they have something else on him. I cannot believe that
just being given the chairmanship silenced him. That's why I think it is probably blackmail.

I LOVED Conyers, and when he became chairman, he broke my heart.

10. Well since they already got his wife, they must have the good one Mr. Conyers himself
I wonder what he did.

15. Freddie, that is the only explanation I can come up with in regard to Conyers...
to do such an about face, letting Bushco off the hook, and worse, in a sense, obstruct justice by being so lenient with Rove and Myers.

14. Hmmm, this thread was started 2 days ago, and some people weren't around for the discussion.
Why are you trying to stop that discussion?
