Poll question: An odd poll about DUers: |
|
I agree with the majority of DUers on issues _____% of the time.
Now before you answer, THINK about how you and others agree on most issues. I realize that a few of you imagine that you're "leftier-than-thou" OR "more-realistic-than-thou", but I'm not concerned about that.
Bear in mind that most DUers (I suppose) agree on a lot of issues. That's why we're here, right?
So let's give this a try. Please be honest.
I agree with the majority of DUers on issues __________ % of the time
(I didn't include "100%" because that's not possible. I thought I'd leave that open if you wanted to add some input.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (I hope this makes sense)

Most of the time, I don't know either.
I feel as though I agree with most DUers most of the time about most issues. (Then again, I see some of the "loud" ones purposefully wreck some threads...) I guess I still believe there's a "silent majority" here.
I guess my point is that most of us agree most of the time.

2. This reminds me of the call I got from the DNC last week. |
|
They asked me if I was still in support of our issues too. I responded that it wasn't the issue I disagreed with, but more the tactics and approach. Yes, I still agree that health care reform is necessary. What form that takes will be what we disagree on.

Lots of local calls, though. Pete Visclosky recently wished me a happy b-day.

Internet polls are far from being "scientific". (that's why I don't "DU" polls...)
Just post your best guess. You won't be tested on this later.

12. 10% disagreement in the conservadem spectrum... |
|
and 10% disagreement in the nanny spectrum.
So 80% agreement isn't bad at all.

13. i'm not sure we have the ability to know what the majority of DU thinks... like, doesn't it seem |
|
that people either read stuff they agree with or disagree with based on their personal preference for positive or negative interaction. people who prefer positive interaction are going to seek out threads they agree with, while people who prefer adversarial interaction are going to seek out threads they disagree with.

Do you feel that you're more liberal than most DUers on 80% of political issues?
Or do you feel as though you're 80% more liberal than most DUers?
Or have I misinterpreted your response?

25. i'm honestly not sure -- i'm very liberal/progressive |
|
i describe myself as an unaplogetic socialist -- i very much believe in the role of reasoned and rational active government in our lives. a la the Enlightenment.
i think many people are -- romantic -- in their politics. so -- we don't agree.

32. I think that most of us are progressive liberals. |
|
The sticking point is that we all have different ideas of how quickly the government can enact the policies that we support.
I'd like everything to happen right-fucking-NOW. Sadly, it doesn't work that way in American politics. Make no mistake, baby-steps suck the funky cheese. It's not morally correct, but that's how it ultimately works. I truly wish it was different.

I often find here that when I think someone and I are of two different views on a subject, after talking about it for a while we're really not that far apart.

28. I would say "DU" is best represented by it's active posters. |
|
Seeing as DU is a message baord, it is nothing without those messages. Passive members, whether in agreement or disagreement of what is often posted, don't represent DU by mere virtue that they are not posting. So if DU had 9000 uber-left progressive socialist members (who rarely/never posted) and 1000 Blue Dog members (who always posted) then it would be a centrist message board despite the 9:1 leftist to centrist ratio.

30. Generally speaking, I'd say between 60 and 70 percent. |

I find most of the disagreements on DU to be over how we do something instead of what we do, the war being an obvious exception.
