Let ExcuseFest09 begin
There will be lots of excuses as to why things went as they went.

There will be lots of excuses as to why things are not as they should have been.

There will be lots of excuses about why we're there.

There will be lots of excuses as to why we can't leave.

There will be lots of excuses.

And they will all be played here. We'll hear them all over the next few days.

But all this is a mere prelude. A preview to the bigger event: Excusefest10, which will follow the political bloodbath that will be America's Decision2010, complete with loudly colored teevee graphics.

9. And, coincidentally, there will be LOTS of teeth gnashing and angst
because nothing will pass the purity test, no matter how insanely strident that test really is.

JUST HOLD ON:

OF COURSE THE TRUTH IS THAT the difference between what CAN be done and what actually GETS done is PRECISELY as big as the gulf between Corporate needs and the needs of the humans in the US.....or worldwide for that matter.

Either the Humans will kill corporate control over the congress or the corporations will kill any chance of a quality of life worldwide.

Period.

Let the hatred begin.

15. Nope, it didn't.
But the chronically fed up forget that the Prez ain't signed anything yet.

And they conveniently forget the that Social Security sucked at first, too.....

And you didn't read my whole post, didja??

17. Social Security did not suck at first - it just didn't cover as many people as it does now
(and it doesn't cover as many people now as it did before Reagan was president. I was able to go college because Survivor Benefits lasted until you were 22 if you were in school.)

Social Security created a whole new program where there had been nothing - in that case anything was an improvement.

What we're getting now is "Coverage for more, not health care for all." Both the House and Senate are determined to protect the for profit insurers at our expense - nothing they are doing is going to guarantee access to care and that is what we need.

18. Your quote:
"What we're getting now is "Coverage for more, not health care for all." Both the House and Senate are determined to protect the for profit insurers at our expense - nothing they are doing is going to guarantee access to care and that is what we need...."

Precisely. Which is why the corporate hold on the Congresscritters must end.

Or nothing will really change.

20. Actually, in a way it kind of is.
We live in a dumbed-down, defiantly ignorant place where people follow every twist and turn in the life of a celebrity but don't seem to give a damn about the stuff in their own lives that really matters -- like good health and affordable health care.

In a land where an alarming number of people still believe that Pres. Obama is a Muslim and that Sarah Palin is an acceptable candidate for the presidency, it's no wonder that real hope and change hasn't got a chance.
