Where America's gay couples live.

WHEN Adam Lambert, a gay singer, kissed a male backing dancer during a televised performance in America, many viewers complained—highlighting ongoing sensitivity over gay rights in the country.

Voters in Maine recently decided to repeal a law that allows gay couples to wed—a reverse for gay-rights activists in the normally liberal north-east. In 2008 Maine had the second highest concentration of gay households, with over eight in every 1,000 households said to be headed by partners of the same sex, according to research based on census data by the Williams Institute, a gay rights think-tank at UCLA.

Those states where gay marriage is legal or where same-sex partnerships are recognised have a higher proportion of same-sex couples than the national average of 4.7. The District of Columbia is home to most gay households with over 14 for every 1,000.

1. It is odd that some of the states with the highest populations
like CA and ME, have voted to ban it.

4. You can't draw conclusions from that because EVERY state that has put equal marriage or
civil unions to a vote has voted to ban it.

That is, there's not yet any comparison state on the
other side of the equation (that has voted to uphold
everyone's rights).

2. I have a friend who was basically disowned by his family for being gay
He says his mother told him "this is not an acceptable lifestyle in this family".

6. Maybe that's why some are so adamant "against"
The are fearful of being embarrased or shamed by a relative's nontraditional marrige, and think denial will save them face. These are the same morons who beleive that "a lifestyle is a choice"

7. Lyric and i live in a 'green' state...
Fortunately, we live in a liberal college town, and know numerous same-sex couples.
