Lieberman: I Continue To Oppose Any Kind Of Trigger
TPM today: In a statement to reporters this morning, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) reiterated his longstanding position on the public option: Namely that he opposes any form of it, including if it's attached to a trigger mechanism.

"My opposition to a government-run insurance option, including any option with a trigger, has been clear for months and remains my position today," Lieberman says. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/12/lieberman-i-continue-to-oppose-any-kind-of-trigger.php

2. I hope he is defeated with all my heart
However, we are likely to have fewer Dem senators, not more, after the next election.

9. Are you serious?
You may not like the health care reform the Dems will pass, but I can guarantee you that if Repubs are in power there will be changes you definitely will not like.

For example, the Repubs passed Medicare Advantage, which costs the government 14% more than regular Medicare. Medicare Advantage provides insurance companies with a financial bonanza, which the companies use to finance the tea baggers.

Do you really want the tea baggers running the country?

I grew up in the pre-Martin Luther King South. The people who liked that kind of government are running the Repub party today.

There IS a difference in the REpubs and the Dems.

11. I was serious that if Lieberman was voted out and a Repub got that spot
then we wouldn't see much difference in the votes.

D after a person's name makes a differnce.

The most important difference is that a D will vote for Dems to control the Senate/House. Even if the D then votes against Dem bills, still he has made a HUGE difference because who controls the Senate/House has so much power.

Of course, I would prefer a progressive Dem EVERY time, but that's not possible in some states/districts. I know that all too well because I have knocked on many doors and made many phone calls.

Edited to add that I know that Lieberman has an I after his name; as horrible as Lieberman is, the I is better than a R because Lieberman did vote to have Dem leadership of the Senate. And Lieberman does vote for Dem bills more often than most Repubs.

That said, I was very much for Lieberman's Dem opponent in the Senate election!!!

3. when will he be giving up his own government health care?
he doesn't want us to have access?

he should buy on the "open market!" after all, there are all of those great choices out there just ready and waiting for anyone to buy in, right?

unless he hates freedom. i hope he proves he doesn't hate freedom by giving up his personal public option policy.

5. For once Joe and I are in agreement for different reasons.
Triggers don't work. They never happen. There supposedly is one built into Medicare Part D and it to date has never "triggered".

8. He opposes anything Democratic because he thinks the
republicans are going to take him to their bosum. But the republicans use a person and spit em out. No damn loyalty on their part.

Remember Katherine Harris. She was kicked to the curb after she was no longer useful. And how about Linda Tripp after she set up Clinton for the republicans as soon as they got in the fired her. And she couldn't get anybody to hire her after that. So like I say be careful how you think you have friendship in the republican party. YOU DON'T. With republicans it is all for one and all for one, themselves.

Oh well we had to give the insurance companies a giant pipeline to the Treasury. They have this guy Lieberman and we just can't get around him in the Senate. He has the strength of ten gorillas! So we're sorry about everything but we tried our best and just lost. Even with our enormous majority.
