4. Bin Laden was one of those freedom fighters. It always has been
a fascinating story of how our friends and allies one day
are our mortal enemies the next.

9. Uh, that's not the Taliban.
Those are the warlords who would later be fighting the Taliban.

13. They weren't called that at the time.
Those are Mujahideen leaders, most of whom would go on to be participants in the Afghan civil war that followed the Soviet withdrawal. Some of them may have eventually sided with the Taliban, but to say that this photo is of Reagan meeting with the Taliban is extremely disingenuous, as the Taliban didn't even exist at that point.

25. Correct, and of whom (Muj) Ahmad Shah Massoud was a part
And since he was probably the biggest threat to the Taliban holding power, he was assassinated just before 9/11.

18. Sorry, but globalresearch.ca is not a reliable source for information.
It's basically an outlet for Mike Chossudovsky's conspiracy theories about the US using the so-called HAARP program to effect global climate change. He does a nice job of wrapping this up in pseudoliberal material, but quite frankly the man is a fucking nutter.

26. Yeah, you know, I was kinda wondering about that after i posted the link.
I just did a quick search on that photo to try to add some insight into it, not really closely checking out the site it was on until after I posted it. My bad. Feel free to disregard my post altogether.

17. Uh, Mullah Mohammed Omar the leader of the Taliban was once a US backed anti-Soviet fighter

Profile: Mullah Mohammed Omar

Mullah Omar and Bin Laden go back to their time as resistance fighters against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan of 1979 to 1989.

His right eye was damaged by shrapnel when he was fighting Afghanistan's Soviet occupiers in the 1980s.

11. That does not appear to be accurate.
PBS attributes that Reagan quote as being about the Contras in Nicaragua.

24. What's the difference between the Taliban and the Contras? Both are murderous thugs.
As was the Ronald Reagan administration.

Most of the shit we're mired in today started with him.

to Iraq to make a chemical weapons deal with Saddam Hussein.
