Obama On Senate Deal: 'I Support' This 'Creative New Framework'
At the end of a speech announcing more money for community health centers today, President Obama expressed his support for the Senate deal reached last night: "The Senate made critical progress last night with a creative new framework that I believe will pave the way for passage ... I support this effort, especially since it's aimed at increasing choice and competition and lowering cost."

Yes, because 'choice and competition' is what every progressive really was calling for.

3. Community Health Centers are lovely.
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 02:36 PM by juno jones
I go to one.

But people have to be aware that they are not the be-all or end-all. There are many services community centers cannot or will not provide, certain types of testing and pain management come to mind. They are fine for routine well care that can be scheduled months out, but are useless during emergencies or acute flare-ups of problems-for that you are instructed to use the ER or go to a 24 hr walk-in, both of which are going to cost more and don't involve getting to see one's primary physician.

And who runs your community clinic? If the governing body is a religious body, are you going to get the full spectrum of options and care that you would get in a strictly secular-run setting?

Not many people 'choose' community clinics. It's more like it's the only option we can afford. Couching them in terms of economic choice is disingenuous at best.

6. Obama: yay for mandates and death to the public option!
I guess he decided to oppose his own health care plan when he became President.

7. Exactly.
And I'd like to hear specific details on how this plan is supposed to 'lower costs', because every analysis I've read indicates that there are no cost mechanisms whatsoever in this bill. It's going to be open season on the consumer, and we'll either have to pay up for their extortion or have the IRS seize our assets.

Great plan! Why didn't anyone else think of this years ago?

and into conference.

All spending Bills MUST originate in the House. By the constitution. We just need it out of the damn elder's club.
