I also found out that NolaTrey passed away on Friday night. Apparently he had an infected tooth and the infection spread to his heart. Trey didn't have health insurance and had no way of getting his condition checked out.

I've only heard it used by (white) emcees at mid-20th century dance contests (for instance, on "Happy Days"). I had no clue it had any racial connotation whatsoever.

Then again, I grew up thinking "Eeny meeny miney mo, catch a tiger by the toe" was the original wording.

The same with "-tard", "paddy wagon", and "gyp"

The word "yowsa" comes from "yes, sir", which was what a lot of films had black actors say when given an instruction from a white man. It is a mimicry of illiterate black servants' speech patterns.

I don't think the use if the term is racist in the OP (hence why I said "unfortunate"), but it has a racist history that all of us should be made aware of.
