Employees were notified today, said Art Scheskie, Trane communications director.
The production line is being moved to Monterrey, Mexico, where the company operates other plants. The decision was made to improve overall plant utilization and reduce costs, Scheskie said.
“This is a difficult decision … and we don’t take it lightly,” Scheskie said. “We’re doing all we can to handle it fairly and with sensitivity with our employees.”
Trane opened in 1989 in the North Webster Parish Industrial Park with 65 workers. Today, it manufactures condensing units, air handlers and heaters, along with a variety of accessories and components supporting Trane’s commercial business. A 20-year celebration was held in this summer.
The news comes less than two years after the Georgia-Pacific plant in the Springhill and Cullen communities closed, taking with it 400 jobs.
Looks like we won't be getting a Trane after all.
