Visionary African American Leader Receives the Nobel Peace Prize
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 09:34 AM by G_j
October 14, 1964 Martin Luther King Wins the Nobel Peace Prize

"A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching
spiritual doom." MLK Jr.

"Through violence you may murder a murderer, but you can't murder murder.
Through violence you may murder a liar, but you can't establish truth.
Through violence you may murder a hater, but you can't murder hate.
Darkness cannot put out darkness. Only light can do that….

"Where do we go from here?", August 1967

1. Today President Obama gave him the great acknowledgement
he well deserved. A wonderful speech today by our President, I hope many get to hear it or read it.

2. MLK came out against the Viet Nam war
and took up the torch laid down by Ghandi. Obama is escalating Afghanastan and is continuing the War on the American People. How ironic that he gets a "Peace" Prize. The transformation makes me ill.

4. Here is an expanded version of the quote. This is part of my DU profile
The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing that it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.

Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder the hate. So it goes.

Returning violence for violence multiples violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.

Martin Luther King
