1. Are you talking about the bill that would allow Americans access to drugs from Canada?
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 10:03 AM by AndyA
If that's the one, I read earlier this week that he's against it.

Not safe, you know. Canadians have dangerous prescription medicines, it seems. Even though they come from the same place. I guess that cold weather to the north compromises the pills.

Looks different, but more of the same, really...

9. The story is all over the internet, if you search for "Obama imported drugs"
or something of that nature, lots of stories will pop up. I think Olbermann even covered it on his show last night.

It's far from a done deal, and the Obama Administration is falling right into the drug companies' talking points of saying imports might not be safe. Even though it seems most imported drugs are still made by the same companies. I'm not sure what they think happens to them once the leave the lab in sealed containers that makes them unsafe.

So, once again, we're getting two stories. The talk out of both sides of their mouth pretty well. :eyes:

5. Yes that is the one.
Consumers could save millions by buying the same pills from the same factories from Canada that our US pharmaceuticals buy from.

That is very disappointing.

7. Not so sure that's wrong...
WASHINGTON - A long-running effort to allow the import of lower-cost prescription drugs faces a new twist — President Barack Obama's administration is raising safety concerns that could effectively scuttle it, even though Obama backed the plan as a senator.

Some import supporters question whether the administration is acting to keep the powerful pharmaceutical industry's support for Obama's effort to overhaul the nation's health care system. An administration official denied that.

While administration officials contend the president still agrees in principle, the FDA is saying it would be difficult to fully guarantee the safety of imports, lending weight to the industry's main argument.

That concern -- plus the billions of dollars drug companies would lose if Americans began buying large amounts of lower-priced pharmaceuticals from other nations -- has prevented the proposal from being implemented for about a decade.

"Does the pharmaceutical industry have a lot of clout? The answer is they sure do," Dorgan said Wednesday. He said when it comes to a vote, he hoped "the interest of the American consumers will have as much clout in this chamber."

Clearly, the pharma companies have more say in this than anyone else.

(I didn't provide links, because those stories are repeated all over the internet. Bing it.)
