Keith Olbermann channels Winston Churchill, damns the Senate apostasy on health insurance reform |
|
I will begin by saying the most unpopular and most unwelcome thing, that we have sustained a total and unmitigated defeat without a war. The utmost that the Senate Majority Leader has been able to secure by all his immese exertions, by all the anguish and strain through which we have passed in this country, has been that the insurance industry, instead of snatching its vittles from the table, has been content to have them served to them course by course.
All is over, silent, mournful, abandoned, broken, Health care reform recedes into the darkness.
The people should know that we have passed an awful milestone in our history when the whole equilibrium of the nation has been deranged, and that the terrible words have for the time being been pronounced against those who fight against the Corporate State: "Thou art weighed in the balance, and found wanting."
And do not suppose that this is the end; this is only the beginning of the reckoning. This is only the first sip, the first foretaste of the bitter cup that will be proffered to us year by year unless, by a supreme recovery of moral health and independent vigor, we arise again and take our stand for freedom.:applause::woohoo::applause: http://thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/2009/12/video-keith-olbermann-all-is-over.html

1. One kind of gets the feeling that the scripts were hammered out before the election |
|
Sure, there were believers in real reform Congress on the left, but it could very well be that the fix was in among the group that would ultimately decide. Everything from empowering and sustaining Max Baucus to the intentionally drawn out process could very easily have been part of a strategic plan to insure the outcome we have today. For Senators like Evan Bayh, it works out perfectly. He can crow from the highest mountaintop now that he was all in favor of universal healthcare and how his strenuous exertions helped craft the "Sunshine & Happiness, Joy, Joy, Not To Worry Healthcare Act of 2009." HE can also keep the wifes very fat healthcare insurance paychecks rolling into the old retirement fund account.
