3. If HCR dies this year, it is dead for the Obama adminstration
Probably dead for a decade. It was from '93 until '09 last time.

34. "Raising Hell" That's good
We need more talk about raising hell, with a lot of actual raising hell to follow.

This is actually beginning to read a little bit like the Democratic "Underground" instead of the Democratic Mainstream.

7. And the Dems did the same thing in '93, ignored not for profit advocates...
to try and keep the for profit insurance companies in business.

What service do they provide in the care of the sick - None!

They do serve as a vehicle for investors to earn a return on their money.

The Democrats need to work for the people, not the corporations.

Whoever heard of the PO back in 2007, not very many. Yet they were able to turn the support from a national, not for profit system favored by over half the population into support for an idea without many details.

Some will blame this on the Republicans or the Blue Dogs, but I blame those who put the profits of corporations ahead of the needs of the people.

There is no way to spin it.

The very act of taking Single Payer Off the Table exposed the LIE.
This was NEVER about Health Care Reform.

From the start, it was ALL about Enhancing the Profits of the Health Insurance Cartel, Wall Street's incestuous 1st Cousin.

35. Single payer is the only real reform...
The public option, as crafted, will just force the poor to buy insurance they would already have if they could afford it.

Let it go. There will be another chance in 2010 if the people of this nation RAISE ENOUGH HELL.

The government has never given anything good to the people of this nation without them demanding it.

16. If HCR dies this year, it's dead for a generation
And in twenty years, it'll take twice as much yelling and screaming to get a bill with half as much as the Senate bill that will be killed this year.

29. I don't agree. The health insurance companies need this bailout

They can't sustain and need this legislation.

Health care reform will be back with a vengence - give it a election cycle.

If it dies entirely, there will be no new bill, not in the next decade at least.

2. Does the current bill force you to buy health insurance?
What if you don't have enough money to buy health insurance? What happens then, Do you have to pay a fine. How does that help people out?

13. Amazing, that part is always left out. I do not hear it in the speeches ...
in Congress.

Here is the AHIP commercial they ran in favor of HC reform.

AHIP commercial for health care reform - "If everyone is covered..."

equals mandate.

people buy insurance.

11. Yes, but that aspect is not mentioned. The insurance companies knew...
they had to make concessions, so they agreed to cover everyone if there was a mandate to buy their product.

Not to mention they were losing customers, between the high premiums and loss of employment.

Then they knew the baby boomers would be enrolling in Medicare and they stand to lose a lot of paying customers.

15. I could go for a private plan IF AND ONLY IF the ins. companies were as regulated
as they are in Germany:

1. Non-profit with controls on what they can spend money for

2. Required to take everyone for the same price

3. No exclusions

4. Pay within a certain number of days without question

Why, they take all the fun out of being an insurance company! :sarcasm:

23. Spot on, Lydia.
That's exactly what a private health care insurance provider should be required to do.

Oh, and I would add that the coverage should be national. For example, if someone from CA drives to GA and happens to fall ill while there, they should be covered the same as they would be in CA. It's insane that you can travel between totally different countries in Europe and not have to worry about health care but in the US, you're taking a chance by crossing a state border.

No Lydia, your idea wouldn't take the fun out of being an insurance company. It would just minimize the profit. How goddamn un-American of you to even suggest something like that. ;)

I love her when I lived in LA and she was on the south side. I wasn't. Whitey that I am I lived on the west side, but I always loved what she said and I'm with her now.
