Matthews is such a freakin' tool! |
|
He's talking to Claire McCaskill D-Missouri and keeps calling it Missoura. She doesn't. She pronounces it like most people that can read. A few weeks ago I was working a blood drive at a conservative Christian school. One girl showed me her Missouri drivers license. I asked her if people there actually said Missoura? She said, "I don't. I think that's more of a hillbilly thing." I loved hearing that. I just hate hearing politicians and people like Matthews using the phony down home sayings and accents.

It's definitely a regional thing, but you hear it a lot in the Kansas City area.

5. Yeah, I know but I there is no reason why someone not from that region would pronounce it that way. |
|
Especially a guy like matthews.

14. you could say the same thing about spanish language names |
|
and countries.
media types usually bend over backwards to sound super duper spanish sounding when pronouncing spanish place and person names.
when i was in spain, costa rica, and nicaragua, i didn't notice spanish speakers trying to pronounce american or english names and places with an english accent, though.
it's an interesting affectation.

3. Yeah, he's like a kid that learned a new word with that one. |
|
Cheeeny, Cheeeny, like if he does it enough everybody else will change the way they pronounce it. He actually started arguing with someone about that a week or so ago. I think he realized he was sounding like an idiot and let it go.

6. Okay, since I'm not from Missouri, I'll have to take your word for this but the entire rest of the |
|
country pronounces "Nevada" wrong.

7. I still remember when Michelle Obama, during the campaign, pronounced |
|
Nevada incorrectly. She immediately knew she made a mistake, and grabbed her head like, "Oh, I know that was wrong...I meant to say..."
It was very cute, and really showed me what kind of a person she was.
Matthews, I don't think he cares at all. Give me Ratigan, Olbermann, Shuster, and Maddow (not necessarily in that order) on MSNBC. The rest: see ya.

8. When Phil Gramm ran for President I saw him slip out |
|
of his down home accent. He said something about his "momma doesn't want" and his eyes got real big as he caught himself. Quickly reapeated it as "my mowmma doesn't won't." That kind of slip up is really funny when you see it.
