sanders and kucinich, the difference imho |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 09:53 PM by seeinfweggos
while their politics (as defined by positions on issues generally) is quite similar. i believe the latter is showboat while the former (the actual socialist) is a much more pragmatic and therefore effective force for progress. for example, both have recently put forward legislation to force a show of hands on progressive issues like single payer (which is good), but in the end sanders will vote FOR any bill that provides more coverage, prohibits pre-existing condition abuse, limits profits, etc while Kucinich will vote AGAINST it, just like the republicans, but doing so for the supposed right reasons - it wasn't perfect.

Sanders is pragmatic. DK is a showboat (tugboat?).

as I liked Wellstone and I loved Wellstone.
I like several other Senators as well. Feingold, Boxer, Whitehouse, etc.

10. Franken is a great guy, and I think the Republicans have wildly underestimated |
|
how effective he is likely to be.
I am awfully homesick for Paul Wellstone.

sensibilities with those two.
Go, Al.

I'm glad to have Dennis in the House and Bernie in the Senate. The only thing I would wish for is more like them.

15. well, sure. who wouldn't like to have the be the moderates in their respective chambers? |
|
but they aren't. sanders the socialist knows this and kucinich either doesn't or igores it.

16. If I understand you correctly, even with a Congress full of Sanders' and Kucinichs... |
|
...they wouldn't be moderates; they'd still be progressives, just with more power to get the people's work done.
Or it could be that I'm misreading you completely; your meaning isn't altogether clear.

17. yeah, well ok, i see your point about the relativity of it all |
|
but yes, you understand me. if kucinich's and sanders' general position on the issues was the median, the moderate position, they would have more power to get the people's work done. they would still be progressive, but progressive would be the norm - again, yes relativity conundrum, sure. lol

I am not sure what it is but Sanders just strikes me as someone more genuine in his motives. Watching them both speak, there is just something about Kucinich that tells me he is a manifestation of all the horrible stereotypes surrounding liberals come to life. Of course, I don't know the guy or his personal history, just a feeling I get.

I think that 67% (or better) had a positive view of DK. What else is there to say?

67% of DUrs who bothered to vote did so in the affirmative. a better measuring stick might be democratice party primaries. did YOU pay much attention THOSE? what else is there to say, indeed.
