KXXV-TV: Former cop accused of using Taser on girlfriend might not do time (Texas)
Posted: Dec 11, 2009 5:45 AM

OAKWOOD - The woman who said she was repeatedly stunned with a Taser by her live-in boyfriend, a former Police Chief in Oakwood, is not happy with his purposed plea deal.

Amanda Juarez was attacked with a Taser in early April. She said she and Oly Ivy had been fighting when he shocked her with a Taser in the stomach, then twice more in the face.

"I could feel him continuously pulling the trigger," Juarez said in her first interview since the incident, given exclusively to News Channel 25. "It felt like forever and all I felt excruciating pain, and I couldn't move. All I could do was scream and cry and beg for him to stop."

Friday the Leon County District Attorney Whitney Smith said Ivy will be offered a plea deal that would mean no prison time if he followed the rules of a two year probation period.

2. But there were mitigating circumstances
She's a woman. No one could seriously get in trouble in Texas for disciplining their woman, you know. You have to see the big picture.

12. No, how could that play a role?
Especially out in east Texas.

3. Our government needs to say to any cop who wants to carry a taser
Our government needs to say to any cop who wants to carry a taser that they will have to submit to having one used on him or her. At full strength, and without the presence of people to catch them or the presence of mats either. And there should be a 15 year mandatory minimum prison sentence for anyone who misuses a taser, along with anyone who abets before or after the fact.

14. Because Texas is like a whole nuther country. Maine is just Maine.
Actually, I didn't see the Maine story. This story is bigger than local because it's about domestic violence and the inequity in our legal system, with an added flavoring of tasers. Maybe they felt the Maine story didn't touch on enough "big" issues?
