Only one, and it pertains to my hobby.
I read a lot of magazones at work that pertain to work, but I don't pay for them. They send them to me for free.

...The Week.
The Week is the finest and most informative magazine out there. No lengthy stories about fashion trends or college ratings - just a wrap up of the week in the news.
I recommend this to anyone that wants to be knowledgeable about everything that is going on in the world.

18. the week isn't really that good, imo |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-11-09 09:44 AM by RainDog
its information is filtered through a somewhat conservative lens. it's the equivalent of time or newsweek, but with less content. all three are really not cutting edge at all and simply restate the status quo.
there are much, much better sources of information online via news aggregators.
weekly newsmagazines, imo, are dead because they cannot keep up with the news cycle compared to internet content. it doesn't help that they offer no real insight or investigative work.
The New Yorker and Vanity Fair offer far, far better articles on issues that matter. who cares if a magazine has perfume ads if the quality of the reportage is far, far better than the reheated leftovers from a magazine like The Week?

was National Lampoon and that was 30+ years ago. I read magazines in the library or take a sneak peek at the newsstand, but do not buy.

.. magazine are pretty much obsolete. I'm sure many will disagree but there is almost nothing in a magazine that I can't get better online.
I did make a mistake tho. I voted zero, forgetting my subscription to Mother Earth News which I will always have because I love them.

13. You are asking two questions |
|
I read the title, and answered zero. I purchase none. But I do not feel honest saying 'I don't read magazines' because they do get read, in waiting rooms, etc. Or online.

I copy edit outdoors magazines for 28 states. So, I do read magazines all day. But I don't eat bon bons. I prefer Reese's Pieces, which I have a good supply of in my desk.

22. Subcriber: Harper's, the Atlantic, Poetry, and Better Homes (Than Yours) |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-11-09 09:59 AM by HippieCowgirl
I found Harper's Magazine fairly recently. I picked up a copy at a newstand at the airport and was thrilled to discover that it was full of words. I love it.
My Consort subscribes to The Atlantic, and Poetry.
I have a mystery subscription to Better Homes & Gardens. I never ordered it, I don't pay for it, yet somehow the magazine keeps arriving at my door year after year. I rarely read it. I usually cut it up for collage.

24. Poll choices do not match Poll question. |
|
The Poll question is: how many magazines do you PURCHASE. The first poll choice is " I don't read magazines".
Well, I read magazines AND I purchase none.
some trade magazines are free, paid for by a company. Some magazines are lent/given to me. Some magazines are free on online.

It's really become IMO the most informative and educational publication today.
Used to be a big Harper's fan, but could no longer find the time or interest.

Muscle and Fitness for me... delivered downrange.. Always on the lookout for new workout plans and tips...
Better Homes and Gardens and Clean Eating both go to the little lady back home. Useful if only for good stuff to take out and put in her recipe book.
