Jenny Sanford: 'I am now filing for divorce' Mark Sanford: "There are hopes to reconcile."

S.C. First Lady Jenny Sanford issued a statement this morning saying that she is filing for divorce from embattled Gov. Mark Sanford, who disclosed this summer that he had had an extramarital affair with a woman from Argentina.

Jenny Sanford’s statement says:
"As so many of us know, the dissolution of any marriage is a sad and painful process. It is also a very personal and private one. Because Mark and I are public figures, we have naturally had less privacy with which to deal with our difficulties than do other couples. Indeed, I know it will soon become known so I choose to release this brief notice that I am now filing for divorce. This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family.

Sanford gets back to business

Sanford said he spent the hours after his impeachment victory on Sullivan's Island with his family.

At the same time, a TV interview of Jenny Sanford was being broadcast nationally.

"I didn't watch," Gov. Sanford said of the TV interview.

In the interview, Jenny Sanford - who moved out of the Governor's Mansion and to Sullivan's Island this summer, leaving her husband in Columbia - cast doubt on the couple staying together.

But Gov. Sanford said he still hoped to save his marriage, understanding his actions had caused his wife great pain. "There are hopes to reconcile."

I hope she doesn't have a lot of trouble getting away from this delusional toad. I'm sure his 'King David complex' is kicking in, and he will fight to the ends of the Earth to reconcile.

He is in his own dimension. I have no idea how much trouble he can be in this case, but I'll bet it is a lot no matter what he has done. If he fights it with the same doggedness he used in fighting the stimulus or resigning, this could be bad.

He will justify his actions no matter how cruel they are. I hope she can mash him at the beginning.
