Wisconsin schools will be required to teach the history of labor
This is what happens when you get a Democratic majority in both houses of state government!

Doyle signs bill requiring teaching of labor

MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin schools will be required to teach the history of organized labor under a bill signed by Gov. Jim Doyle.

The bill Doyle signed Thursday also requires Wisconsin schools to teach the history of collective bargaining.

The proposal has been around for years but never passed. This year it cleared the Democratic controlled Legislature despite opposition from school boards and administrators who said they didn't want the curriculum micromanaged.

Labor unions supported the bill. Doyle said in a statement that he was happy to sign the bill so students would understand the importance of the labor movement in creating basic workplace rights.

14. I sure didn't.
And I know several people who are lifelong union members and they don't know the history or importance of unions either. They just complain about the dues.

8. Wonderful! Now add some critical thinking skills to the mix so when they
attend various Schools of Business they can give those instructors who consider labor nothing more than another commodity to be consumed a run for their money.

11. When I first read the title...
"Wisconsin schools will be required to teach the history of labor" For some stupid reason, the mental picture that popped into mind, was having schools discuss natural labor, pre-epidural, pre-c-section, etc. Man! I really need to go back to bed and start over today.

22. Great news! People have no idea what things were like for workers before the movement & that people
died to secure the rights we have (what's left of them, anyway).

23. Excellent!!!
It's important that they learn the importance of labors and unions and how their state played a part in it (Progressive movement, Robert La Follette etc) I wish more places would do this.
