Berlin/Kairo - Es gibt nicht viele Taliban, die für ihren Humor bekannt sind. Abu al-Walid al-Masri ist anders. Das Terrornetzwerk al-Qaida ist für ihn zum Beispiel "die erste im Privatsektor angesiedelte Dschihad-Organisation der Welt". Und sogar Selbstironie ist dem gebürtigen Ägypter nicht fremd: Sein Image, sagt er, sei derart schlecht, dass es sich nicht verbessern würde, wenn er sich als Jünger Jesu Christi ausweisen könnte - und nicht verschlechtern, wenn herauskäme, dass er Hitler beim Holocaust beraten habe. Er sei aber nun einmal von der "Krankheit des chronischen Schreibens" befallen.

Dass die Welt diese Bonmots nun kennt, ist das Verdienst einer australischen Bloggerin. Leah Farrall war bis vor nicht allzu langer Zeit Analystin bei der australischen Bundespolizei und dort mit al-Qaida befasst. ... Abu al-Walid schrieb zurück - und etablierte über das Internet eine digitale Korrespondenz mit Leah Farrall. Bislang hat er ihr sechsmal geschrieben und einen Artikel von ihr im "Australian" kommentiert.

Überdies wäre ein Abzug der US-Truppen aus dem Land für Osama Bin Ladens Netzwerk eher ein Problem, denn den meisten Taliban und Afghanen seien die Terroristen der Qaida nicht willkommen. Ersteren gelte Bin Laden als Verderber des Taliban-Staates, weil er die US-Armee auf den Plan gerufen habe, letzterer aus dem selben Grund als der Mann, der den Krieg wieder nach Afghanistan holte.
Es könnte schwer sein für Mullah Omar, den Taliban-Chef, Osama Bin Laden auszuweisen, wenn die Amerikaner weg seien. Aber Hausarrest sei eine Möglichkeit, die Gastfreundschaft würde jedenfalls ans Bedingungen geknüpft.

He also said, that the Taliban can't officialy take part in peace negotiations, because it would somehow always look like capitulation, a heritage of George W. Bush's rule: You are either with us, or against us.

Abu al-Walid al-Masri, who was one of the first Taliban, is currently one of their chief strategists. He is known, not to be a friend of al-Qaeda. His correspondence is known as the "Taliban Letters".
