UPS sucks around my area. They "ring and run," or whatever it's called. They don't even ask me to sign for things anymore. They left a big screen TV right outside my sister's house one morning; if she wasn't on her way to work, it would have been left out there all day long. No one signed for it. Some of my family send perishable goods around Christmas time; UPS left it on the doorstep one day without even ringing the door bell or knocking on the door. I was in the house, but wasn't expecting a package. When I went out later in the afternoon to check the mail, I found the food sitting there, with ants all over it.
I hate UPS.

7. Signature required costs the shipper extra. I DO NOT want stuff sent sig. required |
|
unless the shipper and I agree to it before the fact--I am not usually home when the UPS guy comes, which means that the service I paid for--namely delivery to my home, in reality becomes delivery to the UPS distribution center.
I agree that they should knock, but your family member should also pack food much better--perishable food should be sent with an ice pack or similar.

I do freelance work and it comes via UPS. When I lived out of state, sometimes the driver would ask for a signature, and other times he wouldn't. When I would have stuff delivered, like books or CDs, sometimes it would be left at the door, and other times, they'd leave a note saying they'd be back the next day.
But now that I live in the town where the company I do freelance for is located, UPS has become even more frustrating. When I lived out of state, I got my work first thing in the morning. Now -- locally -- I never know when the hell to expect it. It could be 8:30 in the morning, or 3 in the afternoon. So, I never know when I can expect to start on the day's work.
The company used to use a courier service but went to UPS to save money. Another proof of "you get what you pay for." I'm willing to give them a pass because of the holidays, but I don't think this is going to change once they're over.
ON EDIT: One more frustrating thing: Try -- just try -- to reach an actual, live human being on the UPS customer service line. Several times I got so damned frustrated I nearly broke the phone. You can reach a live human eventually, but the hoops you have to jump through to do so are flat fucking ridiculous.

1. Put a sticker on my door saying no answer on weds, when i was here the entire day - our doorbell is LOUD 2. I got this email today - .... We received notification from our carrier that your order has not been delivered. The carrier will attempt delivery one more time.
Options for delivery include:
You may use our new pre-sign option by visiting www.xxxxx.com/orderstatus if you will not be home for delivery. Deliver the product to a different address where someone will be available to sign for the package. If choosing this option, please respond to this email and provide the new address and phone number associated with the new address. Include recipient's name, business name, apartment, or suite number where applicable. ....... i called with business address 1/2 mile away (my office) - they said cool, it would be a good idea to call fedx to tell them we are rerouting i did- first got idiot from india who could not repeat a number, took so long to get a supervisor that my phone battery died. called back again- was told they cannot accept reroute - no reason- they just don't- i asked package be put inside garage door- said they can't. i told her i had signed ticket - she said they can't accept it that way i need to be at home.

13. I went into a FedEx in the Christmas season of 2002 |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-11-09 04:49 PM by Downtown Hound
Inside was a line of about forty people with heavy packages. Behind the counter there was one elderly woman working and no one else, handling EVERYTHING. She was probably in her 60's, doing a job that at least five or six young people should be doing. When I finally got up to the counter I asked her if she wanted me to write the corporate office and complain about the fact that she was left here alone to do all this work. I told her I would be sure to mention that she did an excellent job under very tough circumstances, but that corporate needed to hire more people and that I was appalled that they would leave one woman (I didn't say elderly, seemed offensive) alone during the Chirstmas rush.
She looked at me and said, "That would be sooooo great. They never give me any help here."
I wrote the letter and haven't used FedEx since. Never heard back from them.

Even when they're the cheaper option I'd rather pay more and deal with another company. I've got a couple of FedEx horror stories from work but overall they're my favorite.

I have had a few problems with them. One time I stayed home from work to get my package and the truck was out front. The guy sat there a few minutes and drove away..with me standing on the porch. I check online and he had entered that I wasn't home for delivery.
That was just one example.

All the shippers this year are sucking equally. They're (USPS, UPS, FEDX) leaving packages without ringing my bell or knocking, therefore, I have no idea there's a pkg on my porch. I'd ordered my kitten's ear med. online and it apparently was delivered sometime yesterday, but no ring/knock, I had no idea and didn't know the box was here until I went out this morning. The bottle was frozen solid. (I hope the temp didn't ruin the medication) My dog is 14 and doesn't bark unless the bell rings or there's a knock - so he's been no help. Why the heck don't they at least ring or knock?

My USPS man retired about five years ago. The neighborhood threw him a party - balloons on our mailboxes, cake and retirement gifts. It just hasn't been the same since he left. We've had at least 6 different carriers since his retirement and zero consistency in delivery. I never know what time my mail's going to show up or which neighbor's mail will end up in my box, which isn't really a big thing, but it's tough to build a relationship with the current revolving door carriers. I miss that endearing man and his dedication to his route customers, the personal relationship we built and giving him coffee certs. and cookies. *laff (I read back through this post and I sure sound like a spoiled brat, but I'm hitting 'post message' anyway)

31. The USPS management is screwing with the letter carriers & employees as much as possible right now. |
|
Which is why you are getting such inconsistent service.
The management wants to give the impression that everything is screwed up because there is a big push to privatize the USPS which is driven by the greedy bastards of UPS and FEDEX.
I'm very pro union and those are damn good union jobs that they are looking to kill off and it really pisses me off! :grr:
Anyway, Welcome to DU, I love your user name! :hi:

27. I'm not very happy with any delivery services right now. |
|
I'm out $100 because the USPS says they delivered a package to me that they never delivered and it's my word against theirs. I paid for the shipment with a debit card, so I'm SOL.
As for UPS, they act like it's friggin' rocket science to get to my front door and knock on it and give me a package, and they insist on me signing for everything--they will NEVER leave anything unattended, but they'll "attempt" to deliver it three times while I'm RIGHT HERE AT HOME, yet somehow never make contact with me--then send it back to the shipper so I have to call for it to be sent out yet again...and then the whole process repeats itself.

|
when we discover that they have no intention of doing anything other than ripping off those who are paying for their service- namely- returning an item, when the person who ordered it was at home, then wasting your time and money trying to sort the problem out through india- screw it- I am very close to forgetting the whole purchase- nearly $3000-
