It amazes me how liberals give Republicans a free pass, because they are after all Republicans. Its almost as though they have a disability, and lack free will. They simply vote "no" on most anything proposed by the Democrats with no effort whatsoever at honest engagement. Health care reform? No. Financial reform? No. Climate change legislation? No. However, do they get any backlash for their efforts to tank the government and the Nation along with it? No.
Because of the actions of the Republicans, liberals are expressing despair over the DEMOCRATS! Look at this board and you see more posts that are far more critical of Democrats, rather than Republicans, even if the most conservative Democrat is about the same as what passes for a moderate Republican, Olympia Snowe. Likewise, in the House, the Republicans vote "no" as a block.
Yet, do I see DUers saying that they will campaign to unseat Republicans? Or, that they will try to support progressive Democrats? Again, no.
Think about it. More than 50 percent of Democrats in Congress support most of the positions favored by liberal DUers. However, that is only over half the party, while the Republicans are 100 percent against liberal causes. So, do take it out on those who are 100 percent against liberal causes? No. We take it out on Democrats who are probably about 60 percent supportive of us, perhaps even more.
Unfortunately, we are all drinking the corporate media Kool Aid that health care reform is just the responsibility of the Democrats. Why? Shouldn't Republicans also be held accountable for not take responsibility for the health care crisis? What about Olympia Snowe whose home state is being sued by an insurer in order to increase premiums.
I often see these dramatic posts that announce that they won't support President Obama or the Democrats, because of the failure of them to pass progressive measures over the opposition of the Republicans and conservadems. So, why do the Republicans and conservadems get a free pass?
My fear is that long term this ongoing free pass will result in another right ward lurch as liberals, the corporate media, and the American public refuse to ask Republicans why they haven't done anything, except say "no."
