Cancer Patient Fights For Medicaid
Delayed Medicaid Pushes Back Surgery For Uninsured Woman

The issue of health care reform has become a matter of life and death for a Central Florida man's daughter.

Steve Wolf reached out to Local 6 because he said he is stuck in a bureaucratic mess regarding the medical care for his 21-year-old daughter, Regina.

Steve Wolf said his daughter's problems began with a respiratory infection, multiple hospital visits and a mysterious mass on her shoulder blade.

The mass was biopsied and Regina Wolf was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma, a cancer that attacks the cartilage.

"She was going to school. She had to drop out because of this," Steve Wolf said.

Steve Wolf said his uninsured daughter has been forced to sit at home and wait for the government to decide whether she's eligible for Medicaid.

1. I can relate
When I started getting sick with HIV, my first round was with pneumonia. My insurance said they would pay, then the next thing I knew they said oh is a pre existing we are not going to pay.
I had not yet been diagnosed with HIV. I had to lose my job, car, home, savings and then be homeless for 2 years and land in ICU with pneumonia again and then got Medicaid/medicare after
I was destitute. After losing my job because I could not work (heavy industrial electrical construction) I had applied for assistance , which only got me smart assed 'advice' from
the social workers. Now I have to struggle along on 800 a month , but at least my meds and healthcare are covered..until congress does something stupid like cut medicare and make me
pay. My income hardly covers my share of bills and food, let alone copays which would be more than my SSD payments, forget buying meds our right, my meds cost 5x what my income is.

2. If we label the for profit
healthcare industry terrorists maybe we can get unlimited funding from the Pentagon budget. That's the only way they will stop seeing our suffering as only adding to the deficit. Letting people suffer and die, taking away their dignity is worse than anything an outside force could accomplish. God forgive them, I don't thing I can anymore.
