Schools Say They Can't Afford All-Day Kindergarten
Schools Say They Can't Afford All-Day Kindergarten

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio — Reynoldsburg City Schools said Friday that it will have to find an additional $750,000 to fund all-day kindergarten.

The Ohio state mandate that schools must offer all-day kindergarten beginning next fall comes at a bad time for the district. It is working to survive despite three failed levies, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.

At Herbert Mills Elementary, Principal Craig Seckel said he is concerned about the mandate.

The district has already cut programs like advanced placement classes. Administrators are not sure whether it would be able to operate two new schools being built.

So far, the district has made $11 million in cuts, Mallett reported.

1. How typical is all day kindergarten nowadays?
Where I live kindergarten was always half a day, with one group going in the morning and another going in the afternoon, although I can't say for sure how they do it in recent years.

3. Where I Live it is Typical
I also believe it is necessary. Most children are in a pre-school or daycare situation all day. I have seen with grandchildren how ready they are to learn all day.

2. My son was not ready to stay at school all day long in kindergarten
I thought it worked out well for him to be able to go for 1/2 days that year.
