Kathleen Turner Will Be Molly Ivins in World Premiere, "Red Hot Patriot"
DUers in Philly — hope you get to see this. I'm hoping it shows on Broadway after the PA run.

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/135193-Kathleen-Turner-Will-Be-Molly-Ivins-in-World-Premiere-Red-Hot-Patriot

Philadelphia Theatre Company will premiere Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins by Margaret Engel and Allison Engel, to feature Tony Award nominee Kathleen Turner as the fiery political columnist.

The new one-woman drawing on the words of the late Texas-bred writer will be directed David Esbjornson. The play takes the slot of the previously announced Mauritius, and will run March 19-April 18, 2010.

According to PTC, "In Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins, Kathleen Turner portrays the unsinkable Molly Ivins, the famously brassy newspaper columnist and best-selling author. A true Texas original, Ivins was a sharp-tongued wit who skewered the political establishment and the 'good ole boys' with her unforgettable humor and wisdom. Written by twin sisters, themselves longtime journalists, the play celebrates Ivins' courage and tenacity — even when it seemed like a complacent America wasn't listening."

"We are thrilled at the happy and unexpected opportunity to produce this new play that celebrates the life of one of journalism's most colorful and iconic figures," Sara Garonzik, PTC's producing artistic director, said in a statement. "We are especially delighted to be working with the brilliant Kathleen Turner. With her high-profile stage, film and television career, it is rather miraculous that this window of opportunity has opened in her schedule, permitting her to devote time to developing a new play. When we learned of it, we seized the moment, even though it meant postponing our production of Mauritius, a play we hope to produce in another season."

4. She does - and as an ex-Conservative/Born Again Progressive it seems perfect
Just as Molly Ivins was...(although her conversion began long before she started writing)

All her personas - fleshed out...

I can imagine "Serial Mom" would be fun to play too!

7. Oh man, I like this idea a lot.
Check this out.
If you saw the movie "Marley & Me" (yeah, I know-bite me) Turner did a quick cameo and she was very funny.
She ain't the Kathleen Turner of "Body Heat" anymore but she still has it going on.

Tell me she won't be great playing Molly Ivins.

Molly

18. Not that this has diddly to do with her fine acting abilities but
did she get cheek implants? I was looking at a younger picture of her and it seems like her bone structure is different. (Or maybe it's just that shot above isn't very flattering)

I love Kathleen Turner. I trust she will be portrayed just a bit "softer" than her current turn in Showtime's Californication.

28. Never wrote a review before, but I'll sure try!
My mom, a lifelong Democrat, introduced me to Molly Ivins, when I was just a kid. I'll never stop missing Molly's particular brand of humor. She was a Texan to the bone, and a wonderful liberal commentator.

25. Has anyone seen Kathleen Turner in "Californication" on Showtime?
She sounds a lot like Molly in the irreverent character she plays on that show. She's a riot!
