5. so if we bomb Iran, then he'll support health care reform?
It's time to take away his chair.

It's time for RECONCILIATION.

"If Reid’s nose count is at 59 up until the last minute, he can still use the problematic option of reconciliation, wherein health care reforms are rolled into the budget and thus only require a simple majority vote. If that happened, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lieberman is finally relegated to the backbench—not for refusing to blindly toe the party line, but for refusing to dignify the legislative process with actual debate and the admission that it’s not all about him."

4. Well, Lieberman May Actually Be Worse
Wallace was, like Lieberman, a nominal Democrat that ran on a third party platform to the right of the national Democratic Party. He recanted his racist views later in life and tried to make peace with the many victims of segregation. Many think that he never really believed all the crap he espoused but used it to gain public office. Rumor was that after he lost an election early in this career when he ran as a FDR-style populist, he proclaimed that no one would ever out*****er him again.

Lieberman, on the other hand, has moved steadily to the right in his long political career. He represents (i.e is owned by) the insurance companies, many headquartered in his home state of Connecticut.

While Wallace did not have the power to stop the civil rights movement, Lieberman may have the clout to stop HCR. He may be worse than Wallace.

6. Joe Lieberman's Big Health Care Flip-Flop
Joe Lieberman's Big Health Care Flip-Flop

— By Nick Baumann
Mon Dec. 14, 2009

On Sunday, Sen. Joe Lieberman, the onetime Democrat from Connecticut, vowed to filibuster any health care bill that contains a public option or that offers a Medicare "buy-in" for people under 65. Lieberman's threat, made to Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) during a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill, further dims the prospects for health care reform. But in vowing to kill health care reform to block any Medicare expansion, Lieberman has engaged in a dramatic flip-flop.

In 2000, when he was Al Gore's running mate, Lieberman campaigned on a platform that proposed offering everyone 55 and older an option to buy into Medicare. That proposal—which was a central part of the Gore-Lieberman campaign's health care plan—essentially would have created a robust public option for people aged 55 to 65. It's the same proposal that Lieberman now claims is a deal-breaker for him on health care reform.

Asked last month how Lieberman could reconcile his current opposition to a Medicare buy-in with his earlier support for the idea, a spokesperson for the senator said in an emailed statement, "Senator Lieberman is a strong supporter of Medicare and Medicaid and supports efforts to strengthen those programs and to help the millions of Americans who rely on those programs for their health care." That is, the Lieberman spokesperson refused to explain his switch.
