3. from the same story... lol |

The White House denies the charge. Spokesman Dan Pfeiffer tells TPMDC, "The report is inaccurate. The White House is not pushing Senator Reid in any direction. We are working hand in hand with the Senate Leadership to work through the various issues and pass health reform as soon as possible."

9. The White House is not "pushing" Senator Reid; |
|
rather, it is "working hand in hand" with him.

11. I'd rather believe the White House |

But for the life of me, I can't make head or tail out of the Pfeiffer quote. He says the report (that the White House has been pressuring Reid to give in further to Lieberman) is "inaccurate," but he doesn't really explain what the White House is doing. What does it mean to work "hand in hand with the Senate Leadership"? Who constitutes "the Senate Leadership"? And what are some of the "various issues" being worked through? I don't need an exhaustive list, but a little more detail would be a great deal more reassuring. As it is, Pfeiffer's statement reminds me far too much of the weaselly pronouncements I got used to hearing out of Obama's predecessor's White House.

My problem with the story is that if true, it does not surprise me one bit.
And that's sad.
