American Grifters - Lieberman Was Always Part of the Plan
We've been conned! This latest stunt by Joe Lieberman did not surprise everyone I'll bet. I am becoming convinced that this last hour stunt is an orchestrated affair to kill meaningful reform. It provides the perfect cover for the many Democrats in the Senate that wanted to kill meaningful reform but did not want their fingerprints on the knife that killed it. The best scenario for these Senators is the stripping of the already very weak compromise bill of it's last vestige of credibility (Medicare buy-in) and the almost as good scenario of having the crappy compromise bill passing as is.

Senators like Evan Bayh have won. He has made no definitive statements about any aspect of the health care debate offering that he would wait and see. Now, regardless of whether there are further compromises to be made, he will get to campaign next year as a champion of the uninsured and the common man. His wife will also continue to bank those fat health insurance company board meeting checks.

The most successful cons are ones where the mark never knows they have been scalped. Watch and see how many Senators come out and offer that they have fought a terrible, ferocious battle to get a health care bill passed. Of course, the part they will leave out is that they were fighting the battle FOR the insurance industry.

Someone should put the HCR saga of the last few months to the soundtrack of the movie The Sting.

5. I remember ole Bayh being in the top running for veep
OH and what about those town hall health care meetings? Was that a sham and waste of time or what? Did Bush or Reagan ever ask our opinion about trickle down or raping the environment? No, they just went ahead and did it. Obama apparently is dumber than he appears or he is a con. Because health care is a a basic human right. You don't open it up to bar brawls to make it better. It's been fun though, no?

7. I agree
The failure to pass meaningful reform is not solely Joe Lieberman's fault. He is just one part of the strategy to kill it.

10. Seriously people...
This SHIT they are calling HCR needs to just die.

They started out with what they figured to finally get in the end, but they have whittled it down to nothing, but a big shit burger for the American People to swallow.

You start out with the very best you could ever wish for, then negotiate down from there to end up with what you expect to get. That way, Lieberman and the Republicans are stopping you from implementing a Health Care model from a socialist country and are the ones conceding to a Strong Public Option, rather than stopping you from reforming anything.

It is nothing close to HCR and will permanently close any chance of REAL Health Care Reform in the future.
Conceding to this alleged HCR today, means living or dying with the consequences and baggage tomorrow, with no escape and no reform.

11. +1 "they were fighting the battle FOR the insurance industry" and big biz banking on outsourcing
its medical expense to taxpayers.

Political theater only obfuscates the obvious.
