Looks Like They Caved To Lieberman...
Edited on Mon Dec-14-09 09:13 PM by WillyT
<snip>

Washington (CNN) – Two senior Democratic sources tell CNN senate Democrats are headed towards dropping the compromise idea to allow 55 to 64 year-olds to buy into Medicare because of opposition from Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman.

"It’s what the White House wants and there aren’t many other options that allow us to finish by Christmas," said one source.

Senate Democrats had an emergency meeting Monday night to discuss this issue, which threatens to derail health care.

Although a final decision was not made at Monday night’s meeting, a second Democratic source said it’s likely a final decision could be made at meeting Tuesday of all Democrats with the President at the White House.

“I think there is a fundamental understanding of the direction we’re going in, “said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.

Before the meeting, liberal senators Tom Harkin of Iowa and Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia indicated that the so-called Medicare buy-in would likely be dropped, and while they didn’t like that, they suggested they would support a health care bill anyway.

"If he (Lieberman) is absolutely opposed to it, it looks like we won't have it," said Harkin.

And it was only this morning that there were reports of the WH telling Reid to cut a deal with Lieberman.

Coincedence???

1. I'm done
If they're too craven to stand up to Lieberman, then there's no point any more.

10. They are just as weak as a majority as they were when they were a minority.
The Republicans were NEVER this weak.

4. Color me not surprised in the slightest
Taking single payer off the table signalled their willingness to give up anything and averything right from the start. Why is anyone surprised at this?

9. “I think there is a fundamental understanding of the direction we’re going in, “said Sen. John Kerry
Yes, we think there is a fundamental understanding of the direction the bill is going, too. To Hell in a handbasket would be the direction. Or the direction of raping the middle and working classes to the benefit of the criminal private insurance cartels. Not to worry, though. Rahm has protected those lovely campaign contributions for the Democrats.

11. Come 2010 they may wish they'd caved to us
We have reached the point where no bill is better than what they're about to foist on us as "reform". And the worse part is, the stooges will expect us to be grateful to them for this scam.

15. When you think of how much Reagan changed America (for the worse)
with a Democratic House of Representatives for the whole time, the Dems really look pathetic.

14. I am so disgusted!!
I worked my butt off during the primaries and the general election and for what? The way I feel right now I think I will take a pass the next couple of elections. I have no desire to donate or vote anymore. I had such high hopes but have been let down. How in hell can one little weasel be given so much power that he can bring down health reform? As much as I hate to say it, I have no confidence in the Democratic Party. Where are the Democrats who are supposedly in the majority? They have no spines!!

And Harry Reid doesn't "lack a spine". These people do not want what you want. It's their job to "lose".
