The asshole was a keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention.
And the Dems caucus with this guy? Cave to this guy and give him chairmanships? The Democratic party needs to change it's mascot from a donkey to a chump. Whatever that looks like, maybe this:

1. I hate him as much as you do, but...
... how would kicking Lieberman out of the party have put us in a better situation vis-a-vis today? We'd be exactly where we are now - needing a 60th vote.

2. He was already out of the party.
That's when you dump Lieberman and court a vulnerable moderate Republican. This move will only serve to embolden Lieberman.

3. He's no longer a Dem, anyway. An "independent."
He's also now power-crazed beyond belief.

4. Well, that's true, but don't you think that maybe, if the Dems had
shown some real leadership, had said we aren't going to suffer a traitor in our midst, maybe they'd have attracted other supporters? Pukes like strong leadership qualities, it's part of their RWA (right wing authoritarian) personality. They would be more inclined to agree with a strong leader even if they didn't agree with her/his philosophy, but they would never follow a weak leader -- oxymoron intended -- if they didn't agree with his politics.

So yes, we might be right where we are now, needing a 60th vote, but we might also be in a better position to get it and to be getting it for a much better bill.

Lieberman is a poison, a deadly poison.

5. I wonder, however, if Lieberman had been aced out as the Dem caucus was formed. . .
if he wouldn't be more compliant today, trying to ingratiate himself back into the good graces of the "Club." As it is, he feels confident of his position, and considers his hubris above reproach, since the Dems "need him."

I believe we'd find, once he was on the outs of power, he'd do whatever he needed to regain his position. At the least, he couldn't be any more obnoxious or obstructionist than he his today.

6. What, me worry?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that George W. "le etat c'est moi" Bushs'picture?
