Is it about time real Democrats rise up & STOP this farce of a "reform"? |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-14-09 11:40 PM by Faryn Balyncd
Short of telling Lieberman that we've changed our minds, and are going to use reconciliation, what other option is there to avoiding a corporatist give-away that will be a disaster for American patients, and a nail in the coffin of American business competitiveness?
Who would have dreamed a Democratic Senate could come up with a bill worse than the status quo?

I could get tombstoned for this. In my own defense I would like to declare that I hope we can do better no matter what we call ourselves.

4. It would be fascinating to see if it would work. |

Part of me suspects that if Sanders and left wing democrats were to jump ship, you'd see some of the republicans cross the aisle just to make sure that this dog of a bill passes.

9. The idea is "First, Do No Harm". Specifically, don't try to pass off a corporate welfare....... |
|
....pseudo-reform, as "reform".
When the American people find out that they have been screwed, not only will be worse off, but they will throw our party out on our ear, and genuine reform will be more difficult.
For incrementalism to work, the incremental steps need to be in the right direction.
It is indeed sad to realize that not passing anything is better than passing a fundamentally bad bill, but lying to ourselves will not change the reality.

7. It's in the same place holding war criminals accountable is: corrupt whore's pockets |

Have fun reaching in there with concerned emails and phone calls, aka "taking action". The only way any reform starts is with the imprisonment of the people who corrupted the system to begin with.

11. It was at that point long ago. |

They shoulda forgotten about Reconciliation and went for 51 votes right from the start, and told Lieberman, Nelson, Conrad, Baucus and the other turncoats that we're gonna draft the bill, and if they don't support it its their problem.
This bill is not reform at all, it's a corporate giveaway which just causes more problems. I would hope that this farce should get filibustered, preferably by a pissed off liberal saying "ENOUGH!" (Bernie, Russ, Al and Patrick, your move, gentlemen. :D )
