It's official: U.S. Is Said to Pick Illinois Prison to House Some Guantánamo Detainee
The Obama administration is expected to announce on Tuesday
that it has selected a prison in northwestern Illinois to
house terrorism suspects now being held at Guantánamo Bay,
Cuba, in a major step toward shutting down the military
detention facility.

An administration official said President Obama had directed
the federal government to proceed with acquiring the Thomson
Correctional Center, a maximum-security prison in a rural
village about 150 miles west of Chicago.

2. Not as I understand it. The facility is built and is empty. The town
is in dire staights economically, and they WANT the prisoners and the jobs this would create.
That's my understanding.

3. There are a number of other States that have the same issues. I'm not saying that IL.
should not get this business, but was there any influence from the WH to do so?

4. I'm sure there was
but I'm not going to complain because I live in the area and we could use the jobs.

6. Maybe someone else knows more. But as I understand it the empty, ready to be
occupied facility is a one of a kind opportunity in the US and just happens to be in Illinois.

What makes me happy is that it now looks like there is follow through on the closing of Guantanamo. And that the idiots who wail over the difficulty of containing these "dangerous terrorists" are getting the brush off and are being ignored.
