WAR FUNDING.

Threaten to halt war funding until meaningful HC reform is signed into law.

The US House is debating and preparing to vote on a "Defense Appropriations Bill" this week or next. If it passes it moves on to the Senate for approval.

Imagine if enough Dems stood in solidarity against the war funding bill and threatened to halt it until HC reform passes.

I'm guessing we could actually find some elusive Rethug support for real HC reform. Enough to overcome any filibuster.

Threaten to cut off war funding and some Rethugs may be willing to support our cause. The fundamental right for all of us to have quality affordable access to HC.

1. Then, when Single Payer is signed into law,
eliminate war funding anyway.

2. Well, of course they *could*. But of course they *won't*.
Sadly. Yet predictably.

4. But the Republicans would charge that they're "soft on turr" and the Democrats are
actually more afraid of that than they are of anything else.

5. Declare all illnesses as... vilain terrorists, and launch...
The War on Illnesses!!

Spread the Fear of All Illnesses.

All illnesses are terrifying terrorists!!

They can attack 'murkins in their own homes anytime!

Protect the American people against these terrifying terrorists all illnesses are!

Join This War on All Illnesses!

Who needs two (or more to come?) un-winnable wars overseas when we can defeat these terrifying illnesses AT HOME??

All we need is to scrap those un-winnable wars and fund Medicare for ALL instead!

9. I've always loved the idea of a "War Tax" or a "Patriot Tax" on the rich to pay for the wars.
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 03:11 AM by Selatius
The richest stand to gain the most from there being a war at all, since many of the richest own stocks in defense and oil companies. Let them put their money where their propaganda is by asking them to support a war that they want by paying for it first instead of borrowing against everybody else and sending someone else's son or daughter to die.

It's the ultimate wedge issue. Force Republicans to choose between their support for war and their supposed veneer of fiscal responsibility. You will see soon enough what they will do.

11. They'd accept the tax to continue the war & then find a loophole to avoid paying it.
That's if we could get 60 Senators to support such a logical thing.

15. Wow.... what an incredibly efficient way to commit political suicide.
They already spin this (correctly)as an unpopular bill (ignoring the fact that some dislike it because it goes too far and others because it doesnt go far enough)... now we give them the ability to claim that we're willing to put the troops in danger to force it?

What a xmas present for republicans. No thanks.
