I refuse to chase anymore balloons.
I don't know what is going on with any policy much less health care. My cats and I cogitated on it last night and came to the conclusion that there is some set endpoint that is reached through different means for each of those policies.

The health care reform mishigas was set up to resemble "The Perils of Pauline.' We watched breathlessly as Pauline in the guise of reform picked up different packages to carry along the way. She would lose some through some dire circumstance while she then would pick up another. Lieberman is the dastardly villian who has her in his sights. Who knows what she will end up with if anything. She may just be able to save herself which would be the very basics. Then we are to breathe a sigh of relief that she survived at all and herald her courage and canny moves.

Other policies resemble the ballon with the boy supposedly inside. DADT repeal is sent up with assurances that it will be saved whenever it lands. Progress is being made as it soars on carrying the hopes of many. When it lands, the repeal will be put into affect. In the meantime, we watch as it soars here and there with who knows what inside. Another shiny object to follow across the landscape of promises.

Afhanistan policy was the same way. Unfortunately, it landed in Helmand Province with General McChrystal aboard. This ballon was built with the most sophisticated materials and GPS equipment aboard to guide it.

Now that I have started using every metaphor in the know universe, why stop now?

A lot of policies seem to be played on the equivalent of a casino's 'The Wheel of Fortune'. A lot of options on the wheel are worth betting on. The odds are horrible anyway, but the wheel is also rigged to only fall on certain ones.

There are many different approaches that are used to keep people from tiring of one method. I believe this explains the workings of Congress and the whole Carnival of DC as well as anything else I have seen.

So, step right up!

1. Good rant. We are all disappointed and demoralized. And pissed off. That charade on 60 Minutes
about the "fat cats" blew it all open. That's when I knew - they're doing business as usual...and laughing at us.

2. Yes the disinformation techniques continue and grow
The plan seems to be to keep many balloons in the air so we don't notice the ones that fall to the ground. We've seen how the travelling people (aka Gypsies) use the spectacle of a moment to quick scurry round and pick pockets. I think the same games are being played but for different results.
