What do we do about Joe Lieberman? Will we get any health insurance reform? What will we do about the big banks that are "too big to fail"? What about Afghanistan?
Obviously, our agenda is not the agenda being pursued in Washington. That is a reality.
We have known for years that Joe Lieberman was a two-faced snake. But there were those that argued that he gave us 60 votes so we had to suck up to him. Well, he didn't give us 60 votes when we needed it, did he? When you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas. He should never have been permitted to caucus with the Democrats or to hold the Chair of any Committee. Sixty votes was always an illusion.
Yesterday, President Obama met with the leaders of the big banks. Unfortunaley, they have already got everything they need from this Administration. Yet, they are spending millions on lobbyists fighting this Administration. Now that they are healthy, there is absolutely no reason not to address the "too big to fail" issue. These banks should be broken up and new financial regulations need to be put in place. Progressives have said this for some time. But it has fallen on deaf ears.
And then there is Afghanistan. We will soon have almost 100,000 soldiers in that forsaken folly and we will soon see more and more instability and deaths. But, someone else is calling the shots - not the progressives. If we had our way, we would be pulling our troops out - not putting more in.
But as progressives huddle, we see where we stand. We are only good for the vote we can offer for the others agendas. The sad part is that we have been proven right in almost every instance. Yet, accuracy has little to do with the political agendas in Washington. Just saying...

1. Were the Left in this country to set out one afternoon to mow the lawn, |
|
they'd need a lawn mower, some gas, and a lawn.
They don't have any of those things right now.

4. Until the left becomes a serious threat to the establishment Dems, we're going to get nothing |
|
The left knew this back in the day, FDR nabbed a couple planks from the Socialist platform because he realized that the left was a serious threat if they weren't placated. Thus we wound up with Social Security and Unemployment insurance.
We need to do the same thing. Tell the party to go take a hike and stop going back to it like an abused spouse. Then perhaps the party will realize that they need our votes and support, and will actually start offering something substantial.
Until we get serious in this manner, we're just going to be walked all over time and again, like we have been for the past forty five years.

5. Amazing how repugs can be in the minority and still get what they want. |
|
Banks have been bailed out for now without addressing the underlying issues that led to their financial mess. Real healthcare reform has been thrown out the window. We're still in Gitmo, Iraq, and Afghanistan, sending even more troops to the latter. Find a way to neutralize Holy Joe, take Rahm on a one-way ride out the door and get a real fire-breathing Lefty in Reid's place. Then we may get somewhere.
