I am not going anywhere.. I am in for the long haul.. |
|
I am a liberal Democrat.. always have been.. always will be..If I don't like something my party does, I lobby as an individual and a party member against it.
I am an activist of the old school I guess.
I talk to people in real time as well as net time.
So if people can post they are leaving the Democrats.. I guess I can post, I am in here for the duration.
The HCR act is just in the middle.. we get it passed through the senate, then we have to bring the house and senate bills together for reconciliation
I am in for the long haul on this.

1. Thank you for having the energy and courage to keep up the fight. |
|
I don't anymore.
I'm going to vote 3rd party next time and spend my spare time enjoying my family.
I'm sad for our country.

4. The party is an amalgamation of various points of view.. it is a stew .. |
|
The party did not leave you.. you are just seeing more than one part of the party parcel. Its old, its huge.. and its the one that gets things done in the long run.. its not pretty, its not neat, its messy, and there are times we are all disappointed and angry as hell.. but it gets it done.

pardons to Ed Abbey for mutilating his quote
Society is like a stew. If you don't stir it up every once in a while then a layer of scum floats to the top

This is the oldest most cantankerous political party around. It has too many skeletons in the closet to pass any type of purity test. But we can move the Democrats. Just don't let people talk you out of being a part of and an activist in the party.

16. No fight.. just people stating their postiions.. and I am going nowhere.. |
|
The HCR battle, is still to be fought out when the two bills come together..the house and the senate. This is when it gets good.. this is where we test out mettle, and get out and push our people. We used to be very good at this, but got lazy in the last 20 years of so.. The republicans are good at framing and reframing..
Well time to re school the right on who are the real activists when it comes to policy. They can raise a lot of dust on emotion..but we know how to plant the seeds in that dust and get things done.
Again it is not pretty, and you can feel like things are spinning out of control.. but that is how its done.

do they look familiar? they should, because almost all of them have been doing this all along.
if it wasn't this, they'd be vowing to leave the party over something else.

It's like those within our party are working against it and not being very secretive about it either.
If I had never been to this place before I would think the party were falling apart.

As long as we have the political system we have, which imposes massive barriers to entry on new parties, I'm a Democrat. With all the frustration that implies.

23. The two parties are steeped in the fabric of the country, and people from all walks |

can belong.. (and fight and argue..just look at this board ;)... Third parties have issue of usually being built around a canidate or personality... Perot, Buchanan, etc.. and when that person falters, as they always will..there is not another group to absorb the fall out as people back away..
That is just the reality of trying run a third party.. (the teabaggers are finding that one out as we chat)
But they have a wonderful place to point a new direction.. there is no faulting that either..
But I am a died in the wool Democrat who prefers fighting it out on the party floor.

31. Turn the lights off when you go home |
|
The Democrats, whether you stay or not, have just cut a bunch of their supporters off and sent them into the wilderness.
They are repeating their '94 demoralize the left electoral strategy, and it is working better now than it did in '94.
Whether you and a few other DUers put your stiff upper lips on or not will not stop these people from feeling betrayed and tuning out. This is a monumental disaster, and it did not have to happen this way.
