Charity Without Food After Donation Mix-Up

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―A local non-profit has found itself without any food or toys to deliver to needy families just days before the holidays, thanks to a mix up that sent donations to the wrong location.

The West Sacramento Christmas Basket Project expected to get two truckloads of food donations to help feed hundreds of needy families, but their building sits almost completely empty after the goods were diverted, according to volunteer Steve McCarthy.

"It was accidentally picked up by somebody else," he said. Another charity ended up with the food, even though "they know they shouldn't have got it," Steve said.

"So, apparently, they need it more than we do, I guess," he added.

"We're not going to say who it was," he said. "They know who they are. Hopefully it'll go to a good cause."

With 400 kids waiting for toys and 500 families hoping for food by December 21st, the group is scrambling to find food donations for everyone.

If you would like to make a donation, you can contact the Christmas Basket Project at (916) 372-3360.

2. West Sacramento is profoundly poorer

than it's namesake across the river. That some organization might have purposefully taken WS's allotment is nasty to contemplate.

Although, true to form, as many of the children in WS are non-white and of dubious national origin, I'm sure somebody somewhere feels justified (if this was indeed a purposeful act).
