Workers UNITE.
We all want reform.
1. Pull the plug on their money. Never ever donate to anyone who didn't stand strong for a public option. Make sure you tell the cheerful telemarketer why you won't donate and what conditions have to be met before you will.
2. Find, support, campaign for primary opponents to the spineless Dem centrists.
3. Publicize your disdain for the weak and unprincipled Dem leadership. Letters to eds, casual conversations, facebook, blogs, emails to your mother. Make it known that centrism has failed our country.
And the criticism must start at the top. The man who knows full well we need a public option has been wishy-washy at best on it, and ultra-pragmatic and political at worst. In my opinion, he's far more desperate for health care legislation of any sort and utterly unwilling to risk anything that looks like a loss, even if that means forsaking actual reform. "Bipartisanship" has failed. The "the big tent" has no room in it for you and me.
4. STRIKE. Organize people in your workplace to take vacation, sick days, unpaid leave, quit, retire, or just slow the fuck down at your desk---whatever you can afford to do--until your employer offers a plan with comprehensive coverage. And somebody smarter than me has to figure out a way to create a health insurance co-op that's a real non-profit--not like NC's (Black and) Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

We're going to have to go retro to get control of the Democratic Party--or to effect real change in our lives without the Party.

As for the Republicans in office, henceforth they're all teabaggers to me.
1. Boycott any store, chain, or product that comes from a company that donates more money to Republicans than Democrats.
2. Never ever vote for a republican, even if you can find one with a soul. Any R seat anywhere adds to their numbers, affects committee chairs and agenda-setting.
3. Never buy a single piece, unit, megabyte, magazine, journal, paper, video, tune, or book from any billionaire from Australia. Never buy anything from any company that advertises on Faux "news."
4. Agit-prop the fuck out of their venues. Get out your green sharpie and leave notes in their favorite places. Comment on their books at amazon (but purchase the stuff you actually read from a blue retailer). Make any website that offers space for user comments YOUR forum, OUR forum.
5. Fight the inertia of the rest of corporate media. Never, ever get your information from a television set, save the small handful of shows that are the last bastions out there.

Congress is on the verge of passing legislation that will allow thousands of people to die needlessly, send thousands more into bankruptcy. You'll never have more evidence that your government has failed in its primary obligation to the citizenry. Do not sit down. Do not shut up. Be armed with facts, show your passion, vote your anger, demonstrate the full endurance, volume, and strength of your voice. From now on, you must be an even bigger pain in the ass. It'll matter. Here's the only change you can believe in: believe in yourself.
