Do we have a list of progressive primary candidates?
While it's tempting for many people to sit out the 2010 general election, the primaries are still yet to come. We do still have a window of opportunity to put pressure on the worst Democratic politicians. I will not be sitting out 2010, because my representative is Barbara Lee. No matter what's going on with the national party, she will always deserve my support. However, I would like to know if there's a way to help progressive Democratic primary candidates in other districts.

Which Blue Dogs are most vulnerable to being primaried? Where do we have a chance of effecting some change here without putting the majority in peril? Has anyone made a handy guide?

4. It's the most we can do at the moment
I know everyone's pretty demoralized right now, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't right there with them. But before people check out of the 2010 election entirely, let's see if we can't find ways to move this congress in a more liberal direction.

2. Here you go
Jennifer Brunner, is Secretary of State in Ohio, and much more progressive then the establishment backed Lee Fisher, in the race for Ohio's senate seat.

Rhode Island State Representative Betsy Dennigan, who is progressive and pro-choice, is running in a primary against current Rep. James Langevin, who voted for the Stupak amendment.

Andrew Romanoff is the former Colorado House Majority Leader, who has bucked the establishment and even the President to run a primary against Michael Bennet, who voted against the Cram-down legislation, and until very recently was not generally supportive of the public option.

Doug Tudor is a progressive Democrat running in the primary against self-proclaimed "blue-dog" Lori Edwards in Florida's 12 Congressional District.

Bloomington Resident D'Ippolito is running against Evan Bayh.

Joe Sestak running against Republican turned Democrat Arlen Spector.

Marcy Winograd running against DLC Rep. Jane Harman in California.

Regina Thomas running against blue-dog John Barrow in Georgia. No website yet.

Also keep an eye on Lt. Gov. of Arkansas Bill Halter, who many believe could run against Sen. Lincoln.

7. Brilliant, thanks.
I know incumbency is a hard nut to crack, but we should do our best, no matter how little that is.

8. Do we think it will do any good?

True, it would be worth it to see the blue dogs whipped; but the Dems are about to destroy their ability to keep a majority, even were progressive candidates to replace blue dogs in many races.

Still, it would be worth the donations to see crapola like LIEberman, Nelson, et al. knocked out in primaries -- whatever year they're up for election.

9. It is an interesting question
It is almost a bit tempting to leave the incumbents in place to weather the hellfire that is surely in motion for the general election. Would primarying an incumbent only to fall in a general election with conditions adverse for Democrats generally be a good idea? Should we "save" progressive candidates for 2012, when things may be better for the party and the President could conceivably have a little coattail power?

Right now, I'm trying to figure out the primary races where a more progressive candidate could conceivably unseat one of our problem Democrats while still having a solid chance in the general.

12. Heh, enjoy it while you can... Feinstein will be coming up again in a few years.
And that's when you need to have some Dramamine on hand.

(Actually... I've had it with her. I'll vote for a turnip over her in the primary, and I'll vote green... or Libertarian... or just for myself... rather than vote for her in the general.)
