Senate: Drug reimportation going to fail...
Both Sen. Dorgon and Sen. McCain (cosponsors) of the amendment to allow the exact same drug to be re-imported to the USA are saying that the fix is in, some deal has been cut, and that their amendment will most likely fail when it is voted on later today.

1. Then those in a position to do it
will just continue to do it illegally.

6. Do you realize that individuals can buy from Canadian pharmacies online
without problems? I've not only heard this from one source, but my Medicare insurance broker told me just 3 weeks ago that he buys all his drugs from Canada online and he's a diabetic. He also told me that he takes Lipitor which is very expensive even under any ins plan and he buys his from Canada for the same price that he would have to pay as a copay and it doesn't count against his usage before hitting the donut hole.

I asked him if he wasnt afraid of confication and he told me that the Pres. said the Feds were just going to look the other way.

8. No, I thought it was illegal. It sounds like it is, just not enforced.
In Alaska, a lot of people get medical care and prescription medication over in Whitehorse.

On a side note: Cuban cigars are pretty easy to get here. Not a smoker, though.

11. That's what I said. The Prez told the feds to look the other way.
What they were trying to get put into the HC bill was authorization for the wholesale pharmacies to buy from other countries too. I was watching today and both the Dorgan & the Lautenburg amendments failed. Dorgan 51-43 & Lautenburg 53-41 I think.

2. drug importation
Are the drug companies located primarily in New Jersey, as well as Conn.? Both Lautenberg and Menendez are saying drugs imported are unsafe. Half the drugs sold by pharmacies here come from other countries; the ingredients nearly always come from countries like China and India. Somebody is protecting US drug companies.

7. Is this session of Congress going to pass even one piece of
legislation that will actually bring a smile to the faces of the people that helped put this administration and a majority in both houses? I have such a feeling of either despair or dissatisfaction with almost everything that has come down the pike. From bush holdovers to creeps like lieberman getting jobs that should be going to real progressives to legislation that winds up being favorable to the people that need it least. Disgusted is what I am at this point. Fuck.

9. Here's how to know if a proposal will fail: Does it benefit the working and middle class? FAIL
Does it benefit a sociopathic, criminal industry that makes it's money stealing from and murdering ordinary Americans? PASS!

12. Final vote
The vote on the amendment -- cosponsored by Sens. Byron L. Dorgan (D-N.D.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) -- was 51-48, nine short of the 60 needed to pass.
