Let's be practical.
The Democrats have screwed the pooch big time. They think they can fool all the people all the time.

In the 2010 elections, republicans will have a faux-populist field day slamming the democratic buffoons. 2012 will be worse--much worse. Obama and his Goldman Sachs-United Healthcare cronies have made certain that none of the exuberant activism of 2008 will be repeated--neither the youth nor the progressive wing of the party (even with conservative-pun intended-estimates from the DLCers, the progressives number 12 to 15 million) will support Obama this time around.

He won a near landslide in 2008, but only topped McCain (who wasn't even trying) and Palin (who is bugnuts insane and stupid to boot) by about 9.5 million votes.

If the republicans can get within 2% or 3% of Obama, he will be toast. They'll steal it.

Then we become a full-on oligarchical police state in the throes of complete economic collapse of all but the oligarchs.

Are the DC democrats this stupid, or do they just not care?

1. I disagree... practical is not called for here... a bit of brash is called for.
Put the public option and Medicare buy in back in, and let the Republicans filibuster. Make a big show about it... and let it go on long enough for the media to have a good time covering the spectacle, and give them every hand in covering the public option and medicare buy in that are at the heart of the spectacle.

Then, let drop the hint that, if the filibuster continues past some point or other, the suggestion made by Dean will be considered: Using reconciliation to extend Medicare to all.

Then see who folds. Hell, standing up and fighting, and using the media fixation on a "spectacle" to their advantage... the Democrats could actually turn this shit sandwich to their advantage. All Reid has to do is begin the ball rolling: by telling Rahm and Obama to go fuck themselves... and then telling Lieberman the same.

Make 'em filibuster!!

:)

2. They don't care. I do think Obama will be re-elected
I just don't think the GOP has a candidate who can beat him in 2012. However, by 2016, the GOP will most certainly have regained control of both Congress and the Presidency. In the case of the Congress, it's looking like it could happen in 2010 but it would be hard for them to get both houses by then. Most certainly by 2012 though. The GOP is eerily quiet these days. More or less letting the Dems hang themselves while figuring out how best to exploit their many weaknesses.

3. Obama will probably be re-elected with Republican House and
Senate. The Democrats are proving to the Media they
are not willing to stand for anything much less govern.

4. In my pre-registration days lurking at DU,
I saw plenty of posters (mostly gone now) trying to discuss Democratic principle instead of "realpolitik" Machiavellian shit. They mostly were ignored or ridiculed.

The lack of principle is pretty obvious now, is it not?

5. I agree. I'm so bloody tired of calculation, pragmatism, faux-bipartisanship, and endless surrender.
How is being a lickspittle lackey somehow preferable to fighting and losing?

Oh...the money. You're right, I forgot...never mind.
