If you want to get a look at politics at the city and county level
which, by the way, affects all the politics all the way up to the top...

Take a look at The Good Wife...

It's the best portrayal of big time city and local politics I have seen in an entertainment venue since the Spencer Tracy movie The Last Hurrah...

How do I know? Well from 1992 to 2002 I was a player in the political game played out at the city and county level here in Cleveland Ohio. I was the treasurer for the county democratic party eight of those years, served on the Board of Elections and was in a lot of those back rooms when it is decided which, for instance, Irish/Italian/Polish name would be the one to win the party endorsement in a particular judgeship.

Before that I worked on Verne Riffe's, the longest serving democratic Speaker of the Ohio House, staff and was in on a lot of meetings where I saw the horse trading first hand. No one paid any mind to a lowly staffer standing off to the side.

I was also there when the Unions made there decision, saw how the back room politics went, the late night phones calls and all the lousy dinners at 24/7 diners gossiping and yakking about all that was going on.

I saw which law firms were political and which ones were partisan. Usually, but not always, the trial attorneys lined up for the Dem's and the corporate attorneys went for the GOP.

A neophyte would probably not understand all the stuff that goes into running for office. That is why so many idealistic people are bowled over by the enormity of the political networking and give up.

BTW, I also served as the Treasurer for the Green Party for a while in the late 80's...

Anyway, It really is a good show beside the political stuff.

3. Semi retired....
I worked on a statewide campaign last year, for Supreme Court, but it really took a toll on me health wise.

I'm not as young as I use to be.

I'll probably work on a few local campaigns and then get out of the way for the next generation.
