Fla. Wants Citizens To Report Tobacco Tax Cheats

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida is trying to enlist citizens in a campaign against tobacco tax cheats.

The state made the trade in illegal cigarettes more lucrative this year by increasing the cigarette tax by $1 a pack.

The Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco on Wednesday announced that it'll begin paying informants up to 50 percent of fines collected for illegal cigarette sales.

The agency also has set up a toll-free hot line to report sales of cigarettes without the required tax stamp.

2. Negroponte's TIA program seems to be alive and well at least in Florida
I suspect there is a version in the US government as well. Obama has pretty much kept in place every other Bush* atrocity.

How can there be layoffs in law enforcement when governments come up with more and more stupid enforcement tricks???

Brought up with "neighbor helping neighbor"

4. It was called the 'Stasi'.
At some point in its history, it was reported to have one in four adults working for it.
There is a great movie about the Stasi out now; The lives of others. See it. Compare it to the States. I'd say you're not there yet!
