Gee. I wonder if dropping the public option has anything to do with the public's souring on HCR.

NBC poll: Public sours on health reform
Posted: Wednesday, December 16, 2009 1:00 PM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: Polls
From NBC's Mark Murray

As the Senate sprints to pass a health-care bill by Christmas, the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that those believing President Obama's health-reform plan is a good idea has sunk to its lowest level.

Just 32 percent say it's a good idea, versus 47 percent who say it's a bad idea.

In addition, for the first time in the survey, a plurality prefers the status quo to reform. By a 44-41 percent margin, respondents say it would be better to keep the current system than to pass Obama's health plan.

By comparison, in September's and October's NBC/Journal polls, the American public preferred changing the system to the status quo, 45 to 39 percent.

The poll was conducted Dec. 11-14, and has a margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.

The full survey will be released tonight at 6:30 pm ET on NBC Nightly News and MSNBC.com.

1. Sure, but Dems aren't out there making that case so Republicans...
...will run with the lie that works for them.

2. And the media will happily back them up.
Reporting that it's "Obamacare" people object to.

4. The President has said that this bill meets ALL of his criteria.
It seems it is exactly what he wanted from the start. He is pleased.

12. Perhaps so, but it's nearly the opposite of what he RAN on.

Maybe that has something to do with the plunging support for "the" plan?

Maybe people have burned often enough to flee a bait-and-switch when they see it coming?

13. Who the hell knows WHAT Obama really wanted.
All it seems he really wants is a bill passed with "Health Care Reform" on it that he can sign to claim he kept a campaign promise. He (and his admin) seem to think he's only hurt if there's no bill. They seem as willing to write off progressives as Democratic administrations always been (in my adulthood, anyway).

7. What plan? He hasn't had a plan - or his plan hasn't been operative - for MONTHS
Could people souring on Health Care Reform have SOMETHING MAYBE to do with the incremental morphing of the plan under debate into a insurance company GIVEAWAY???

10. Well, if the administration still thinks the bill that remains is worth fighting for, they'd
better start ramping up the message machine and tell us why we should want it.

15. It Depends On How The Question Was Asked......
Have I soured on HCR? Yes. Why? Because it doesn't resemble what we came to expect it would. Too many compromises. To much given away.

So now with what we have left in this mess - it doesn't meet my expectations.

Do I still favor the concept of HCR? Yes. But it needs to be real reform - not a giveaway to big insurance and big pharma.

I don't think that the question will be asked the way it should be. As such - it will be fodder for the Repugs to use against us.

16. I agree with you 100%.
I was strongly for health care reform when it was presented as health care reform. This health care tweaking leaves me cold.

17. I've noticed the MSM keeps implying the negative response
is from the righties who can't send enough of their money to big insurance. No one has mentioned the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party which is totally fed up with this.

21. The Public souring on Health Care Reform is because of what they have done to it.
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 03:04 PM by Kansas Wyatt
Or more accurately, what they have watered it down to, while providing a giveaway to the Insurance Industry.
