So if the Senate passes a weak bill--won't the House vote it down in the end? |
|
because I've heard that many in the House won't accept a bill without a Public Option.
And so to get a bill thru the House they will need to strengthen it. My guess is that eventually we will get something thru Reconciliation.

3. That's what I am hoping for. Reconciliation with the House leading the charge is what is needed. |
|
I only hope the progressives in the House don't cave also. They are our only hope now.
They should vote against the bill and force the Senate to compromise with them.

4. Remember that weird, unheard of plan to "ping pong" the Senate bill floated last week? |
|
It sounded like an unconstitutional trial baloon to try and remove the possibility that liberals in the House would ever get a chance to vote in reconciliation to me.

5. Anthony Weiner says... |

“If the unholy trinity emerges from the Senate of keeping the Stupak amendment, ejecting the public option, and taxing health benefits, it’s not going to survive in the House,” Weiner warned. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dc/2009/12/weiner-sees-unholy-trinity-com.html#ixzz0ZsTFRUcE

The reason no one believed the progressive caucus was that their threat wasn't credible. They are not going to kill HCR, since they know that if they kill this they will end up with nothing (and the only people who think this bill is worse than nothing are demagogues who somehow thought that private insurance would be going away). You may not believe me, so we'll just have to wait for the final vote tally.
