Some very surprizing comments from my fellow worker-outers at the gymnauseous |
|
I go three times a week. In the daytime, the population is mostly retirees or people sufficiently well employed as to be able to take time off during the day to indulge in gymnaticufs.
There are 8 teevees in front of the cardio shit. On many days, four of them are tuned to Fox. Often one or two are tuned to CNBC. I say that as an indication of the general nature of the group. I know there are more than a few of us who prefer MSNBC, but we almost always have to wrangle to get a set changed to show it.
Aaaaaanyway ...... today. The talk was quite uncharacteristic. Politics. Health care, specifically. What went wrong, more specifically. All the known liberals (not all Democrats) were angry. Mostly at Lieberman, but also at Obama. Some expressed disillusion. Mostly just disappointment.
Now here's the unusual part (I thought). More than a few of the known Republicans were expressing anger at Lieberman, too. They mostly wanted some form of health care reform. The sentiment among them was that Obama got screwed by Holy Joe.
I was gobsmacked. This same crowd has never had much good to say about Obama.
So where's the sympathy coming from?

2. I don't get what you're saying |

I know what open enrollment is. I'm less sure how you see it applying here.
Not arguing. I really don't understand.

3. Average Americans, who happen to be Republican, wanted something.... |
|
Good to be done about Health Care in this country. They may not voice it, due to Party loyalty, but they still wanted Obama to deliver real HCR.

5. My husband is a Republican |

and thinks Obama is showing promise of being a good president. Hubs also dispises Lieberman and sees him as a worthless obstructionist. Go figure.

6. Double digit insurance increases this year, above 30% aren't unusual |

They're finally starting to get it that business is getting just as fucked as workers are with the present system. Everybody knows we need real reform, not just a pink ribbon tied on the present mess and passed off as a new package.
This is why many if not most Democrats will be out of a job in 2011.
Well, unless, and it's a huge unless, they manage to get this thing into reconciliation when it finally dawns on them there is no pleasing the asshole Blue Dogs, of which Lieberman is only the most vocal.

7. What I'd like to know is |
|
if it had been the republicans with their twisted idea of health care reform, would Lieberman have been a pain in their ass too?

9. This backs up my hunch |
|
that Lieberman's antics will help us gain seats in the Senate in 2010, not lose them.

10. The majority of Repuges I know |
|
wanted health care too...just never believed it would happen...I would point out to them that it was more than likely it wouldn't happen because of the pols they elected...and from what I could see in Con. it was repuges that elected lieberman.
