Have you heard the latest right-wing spin on taxes?
Everyone who pays taxes is going to pay MORE taxes under Obama than under Bush. Why? Because Obama is allowing the Bush tax cuts to "expire" in 2010. He can lie about
not raising taxes since he's not actually raising them, only allowing a higher tax rate to kick in.
Oh, that clever, clever socialist!
Here's the gist of the right-wing agit-prop:
http://ares.newsvine.com/_news/2008/10/27/2045781-obama-and-the-bush-tax-cutsWhat will happen in 2010--if you pay the 10% rate, your income tax will increase to 15%. If you pay 15% now, it will stay the same. If you pay 25%, you will pay either 31% or 36%. If you pay 33% now (one third your income), your taxes will go up to 39.6. . . . these are the levels before the (Bush) tax cuts took effect.
But Obama specifically said he would NOT do this. His proposal for new tax brackets are as follows:
Tax Rates
"Currently there are six tax brackets: 10%, 15%, 25%, 28%, 33%, and 35%. Those tax brackets were implemented in 2001 and are scheduled to expire at the end of 2010. Obama proposes to continue using the 10% through 28% tax rates and to replace the top two rates with 36% and 39.6% rates."
http://taxes.about.com/od/2009taxes/a/obama_tax_proposals.htmThis tax increase would only affect families making a quarter million or more in income, just as he promised during the campaign.
So . . . once again, we're forced to play "whack-a-mole" with the right-wing lie-machine stuck on full speed ahead. Don't let them overwhelm the truth with the repitition of falsehood.
